D1 IMPROVE TRANSPORT BETWEEN SYDNEY'S CENTRES

People need access to activities in different locations and at different scales - within their local neighbourhood, in centres and corridors within their region, and to activities and places across the metropolitan area. This objective aims to connect people to centres by focusing on public transport links to serve existing and new centres in Sydney.

D1.1 Extend the Rail and Bus Networks to Connect Centres

D1.1.1 Plan, and as appropriate, construct the North West-CBD-South West Rail Link.

D1.1.2 Establish a network of strategic bus services to connect centres, consistent with the 2004 Review of Bus Services in NSW (the 'Unsworth Report').


D1.2 Extend Transport Networks to Serve Growth

D1.2.1 Implement the plans to extend and upgrade the strategic bus network and road network in the South West and North West growth centres.

D1.2.2 Roads and Traffic Authority to continue to coordinate road upgrades in existing areas.Other major roads in Sydney will also need to be upgraded and extended to cater for growth in existing urban areas, especially in renewal corridors, specialised centres and employment lands.

D1.2.3 Investigate higher capacity transport modes and protect corridors.


D1.3 Connect Regions and Economic Gateways within the Greater Metropolitan Region

D1.3.1 Work with local government and the Commonwealth Government to plan connections between regions and economic gateways in the Greater Metropolitan Region.
