The Metropolitan Strategy City of Cities: A Plan for Sydney's Future was released in December 2005.

Prior to this, the NSW Government released a number of strategies and discussion papers for comment. The feedback received from the community, from local government and State agencies, and from industry and community stakeholders was collated and helped to form the City of Cities document.

This archive includes much of that discussion information, the majority of which was released in 2004. It should be noted that current policy is that which is detailed in the main sections of this website.

  • The Ministerial Directions Paper, released in May 2004, set out Sydney's key strengths along with the key challenges that the city faces at the beginning of the 21st Century. These directions were inputs to the Sydney Futures Forum.
  • The Metropolitan Strategy Discussion Paper was released in September 2004 as the basis for discussing Sydney’s future during the 2004 Community Forums. The Paper sets out a vision, challenges, directions, priorities, actions and ideas for managing the growth and change that will occur in Sydney over the next 30 years.
  • The Futures Forums Events were a series of events where the people of Sydney were given the chance to have their say about the future of their city.
